Laser Hair Removal Downfalls Las Vegas

As a guide to who is suitable for this procedure, one of the main determining factors is coloring. The hair must always be darker than the person's skin color surrounding the area to be treated. Skin with darker pigmentation can absorb too much of the laser energy and so are not ideal candidates for most laser hair removal. If your hairs are light and the surrounding skin is tanned you will not be a candidate for normal sessions either. There are specialty lasers for this type of skin coloring, so check your provider for availibility. If your skin is tanned and you have dark hairs, you may well have to wait until the tan fades before you could proceed. Light skin makes the hair easier to remove, requires fewer treatments and faster results are required. Laser hair removal can be performed on darker skin but requires more sessions, greater expertise and has slower results. Dark, course hair responds best to the procedure as the hair absorbs more energy. Laser hair removal must be individually tailored to each patient. Electrolysis in Las Vegas works for everyone, any skin type, any hair color!

When considering either laser hair removal or electrolysis, gather information accordingly. Ask what type of laser/probe will be used, ask your practioner questions, get referrals, ask your friends, co-workers or anyone if they have heard good or bad things about your doctor and make sure that you are comfortable from start to finish. The best thing about being prepared is that you will know exactly what to expect and you'll enjoy every step of completing your goal when you know that you're in control of your progress, not just your doctor. If you do alot of asking around, you will find that electrolysis in Las Vegas is more effective than laser hair removal hands down.

I have had well over 10 laser hair removal treatments on my back over the past 2 years.I have pale skin and dark brown hair. The laser is also being used at its strongest.I was initially told that it would take about 5 treatments to remove the hair permanently and that if any additional treatments were needed they would be free. After the 5th treatment i was informed that touch ups would cost $100.00 each.I was very anxious to get rid of the hair so i agreed.I think i have had some slight success but not much.If i don't get a treatment every month or so the hair is back.I was told by an elecrolisis expert that laser hair removal does not work for permanent hair removal period. That i should get my money back.I have become friends with the doc and feel kind of bad to ask for my money back. But if it really does not work i will.what should i do. I am into body building and must get rid of this unwanted hair.

Waxing Hair Removal Las Vegas

Waxing hair removal is a temporary method of hair removal.

It involves spreading a thin layer of heated wax on the unwanted hair and then covering the wax with a thin piece of paper or cloth which is then rapidly pulled off in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

The hair is pulled out at the root and the treatment typically provides several weeks of hair-free skin before the hair starts to grow back again.

Typically, after several treatments the hair that grows back tends to be finer and softer.

One advantage of waxing hair removal over shaving is that shaving tends to only last for a day or two before the prickly feeling of the regrowing hair is noticeable!

Here are some things to think about if you're considering the waxing hair removal option.
Waxing: Benefits

    * Can cover larger areas relatively quickly ie. arms, legs, back.
    * Can provide several weeks of hairlessness which is longer than shaving or depilatories.
    * Can be done at home.
    * Is relatively inexpensive when compared to other hair removal options.

Waxing: Considerations

    * Some body parts should not be waxed ie. eyes, nose, ears.
    * Some body parts should be waxed only by a professional ie. genitals.
    * Can be painful.
    * Can be messy ie. hot, dripping wax.
    * Can irritate skin immediately after waxing.

Be Careful of Laser Hair Removal Referrals

So the other day I am working on a client that I've been working on for a few months and she makes the comment....I just received a referral check form American Laser for a person I recommended 11 months ago. Then she wonders why the check took so long to get to her. As the conversation progresses she states that she referred about 5 people to the Laser Hair Removal clinic in Las Vegas and she needed the checks badly. I thought it was interesting because she ended up in my electrolysis office and was receiving treatments for hair that the laser did not remove. This is after a year of treatment and after she could not afford the sky high package deal that laser traps you under for 2 years. I guess the moral of this blog is to do your homework and inquire if the person recommending you to a place is making a financial gain. Honestly if this is the case...they are not concerned that you become hair free....they are trying to recoup their losses that they paid into their package deal.

Many people have been misled or don't understand the difference between the numerous hair removal options. In order to help you verify the facts I reference throughout this website, two links from the FDA site have been added. By clicking on LASER you will see that only a few methods have been granted the permission to advertise as permanent hair reduction. Notice that they cant use the phrase permanent hair removal By clicking on ELECTROLYSIS you will see that the FDA stands behind this procedure and uses the phrase permanent hair removal. The only difference between the two statements is reduction and removal. What does this mean for you? By choosing electrolysis your money is backed with an FDA guarantee.

What Causes Unwanted Hair?

It has been estimated that 8 out of 10 women will have unwanted hair at some point in their lives. When you consider the many contributing causes, it is no wonder. Below are just a few of these.

    * Fluctuations in hormones present a potential for excessive hair growth. Some examples include:

          o Puberty

o Pregnancy

o Menopause

o Stress

    * Heredity plays a major role in hair patterns

    * Many medications produce hair growth as a side effect

    * Glandular disorders cause only a small percentage of unwanted hair growth.

Your electrologist (Me) is trained to refer you to a physician in those cases.

What About Scarring?

There is always a risk when any invasive procedure is done on the human body, however the risks are very small with electrolysis in Las vegas as long as the electrologist is trained. Immediately after treatment, you should experience a tiny red lesion at each treated follicle much like an insect bite. This lesion will disappear shortly after treatment and the area will return to normal. If there is continued redness for several days or visible scabbing, especially on the face, please report this to the electrologist. The solution could be as simple as changing the type of electrode because of the client's allergy to metal. Scarring from laser is not a common occurrence, since it is not an invasive procedure. It is up to the consumer to determine whether the laser operator has been trained and is using the correct hair removal laser

What is the difference between the way electrolysis works and the way laser works?

With conventional electrolysis in Las Vegas Nevada, no matter what modality is being used, the target tissue in the hair follicle is the moist dermal papilla. This current, whether direct or alternating (RF), causes either a chemical reaction or heats up the moist tissue and destroys it. Great care has to be taken not to administer too much current that would affect the moist ground tissue of the dermis that surrounds the lower portion of the hair follicle. This layer of skin contains the collagen and elastin layers and can be irreparably damaged to being too aggressive with conventional treatment. The laser is different, because it's light is absorbed by the dark pigment producing cells at the bottom of the hair follicle. These are called melanocytes, which means they produce melanin. The heat from the melanocytes is then transferred to the adjacent vascular cells and the heat destroys these cells of the dermal papilla. Because there are no pigment cells in the adjacent dermis, the laser can be turned higher than conventional devices because there is no chance of damage.

Does tweezing cause ingrown hairs?

It can definitely cause ingrown hair, yes. Not always, but sometimes.

It also can make the hair darker and thicker over time depending on the area you're tweezing. Tweezing the face or chin for example is always a terrible thing to do. Tweezing can also distort the root of the hair which makes permanent removal more difficult in the future if you ever decide to remove the hair permanently with electrolysis or laser.

Who is a canidate for laser hair removal in las vegas

Both men and women seek laser hair removal services to have superfluous or unwanted hair removed. Hair removal is commonly done on lip, chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, pubic area, bikini lines, thighs, face, neck, chest, arms, legs, hands, and toes.

Laser is attracted to dark pigment and therefore works best on pale skin and dark coarse hair. The closer you are to this combination (i.e. the lighter the skin and the more coarse and dark the hair), the better the results will generally be after proper treatments.

Alexandrite long pulse laser types work the best on light-colored skin (types I-III - see Question #12 to determine your skin type), followed by diode (skin types I-IV) and Nd:YAG types (skin types IV and darker). Since laser targets the hair by being attracted to dark pigment, using an alexandrite type of laser at settings effective enough to kill the hair on darker skin can result in skin burning or loss of skin pigment (hypopigmentation) because laser will be attracted to the pigment in the skin, not just the hair. Long pulse Nd:YAG lasers were created to cater to dark-skinned patients, so they are safer at effective settings than alexandrite lasers, and are the only hair removal lasers that should be used on those patients given that their hair is coarse enough. Diodes are ok on skin types I-IV.

A set of at least 6-8 treatments at 8-12 week intervals are generally necessary to achieve substantial hair removal with laser. Factors that determine the length of treatment include:

* Area to be treated
* Texture of hair
* Number of treatments

Permanent Pubic Hair Removal Las Vegas

According to searches, a lot of people seem to be interested in permanent pubic hair removal. Pubic hair removal really isn't too different from other hair removal-- if you want a permanent solution, your options are pretty limited.

Electrolysis is the use of an electrical current sent to the hair root via a needle, 'killing' it and stopping growth of the hair for good. It is not typically done at home and is a long occasionally painful process, one hair must be treated at a time. It takes multiple sessions over a long period of time, but is the most reliable choice for long-term hair removal.

Laser hair removal is the use of a laser which targets a pigment called melanin in the hair, and destroying it. It works best on people with fair skin and dark thick hair, as there is more melanin to target in the hair and less pigment in the skin to hinder the process. It is faster than electrolysis but less thorough, the levels of hair removal vary from person to person. It should be done by a professional and takes repeat treatments for acceptable results.

There are unfortunately some scams out there, claiming to provide permanent hair removal at home. Namely electric tweezers, herbal inhibitors, and dietary supplements claiming to provide permanent hair removal at home should be approached with skepticism at best. Remember, electrolysis and laser hair removal are the only methods proven to provide actual permanent hair removal.

Electric Razors Las Vegas

Electric razors run the gamut from full-blown shavers you could shear a sheep with, to tiny battery-operated facial trimmers.

Electric razors are hand held devices with motorized blades which do the cutting for you.

They can come with many attachments for different lengths and areas.

ELECTRIC RAZORS - HOW TO USE
Electric razors are pretty straightforward. On dry skin, simply run the razor across the desired area. If needed you can apply a little baby powder to soak up any excess moisture and help it run smoothly. Unless your model is a particularly large one you shouldn't need to worry about cutting yourself.

ELECTRIC RAZORS VERSUS OTHER METHODS

Electric razors are extremely quick, 99.9 painless, and cost nothing after the initial purchase. However they do not give a very close shave. This may be a good thing if you are prone to razorburn or ingrown hairs, but if your hair is very dark you will probably be left with visible stubble.
Expect to spend $13-$25 for a tiny facial groomer, $60-$100 for an 'intimate' shaver, and $38-$160 for an electric beard shaver.

Female Facial Hair Removal Las Vegas

It seems to be a common assumption that only men have facial hair, and all women have smooth hairless skin on their faces. However this can safely be disproved as most women have a small to moderate amount of hair on their faces, ranging from soft fluff to stiff whiskers.

This is perfectly normal, in fact most women have it, and nothing to be ashamed of.

The most common methods for treating facial hair is plucking, though bleaching is another viable option and threading is rapidly gaining popularity. Some women also wax their faces.

A couple other options are electrolysis and laser. Electrolysis is more thorough.

There are also facial depilatory creams available, though depilatory creams designed for the body should not be used on the face.
A rotary epilator can generally be used on the face safely.

Friction is a method which should not be used on the face, as the skin is delicate and does not respond well.

Because the face generally offers a small area with typically fine hair, there are many methods available.

Visit New Finish Electrolysis for your free consultation and become hair free permanently.

Hirsutism Las Vegas

Hirsutism can range from a few dark chin hairs to a miniature mustache and sideburns to a full beard and hairy chest.

In most cases, hirsutism is a symptom of elevated blood levels of male hormones (androgens) being produced by the adrenal glands or ovaries, says Maria New, chairwoman of pediatrics and chief of endocrinology at Cornell Medical Center in New York City. Sometimes, the hormone levels are normal but certain hair follicles are thought to be hypersensitive to the androgens testosterone and androstenedione. In rare instances, an androgen-secreting tumor or polycystic ovarian disease is to blame. Occasionally, no cause can be found. According to Dr. McMichael, hirsutism can begin at any age, but most patients develop symptoms during their childbearing years.

"In young girls who have not yet reached puberty, hirsutism is serious and could be a sign of a hormone-secreting tumor," Dr. McMichael told physicians at a recent meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. In postmenopausal women, sudden or severe hirsutism could also be caused by an androgen-secreting tumor.

Many women who have become hirsute assume the hairiness is hereditary and never ask a physician about it. Fortunately, hirsutism is rarely a sign of a serious health problem. If, however, excessive or rapidly growing hair appears suddenly in areas where women do not typically grow hair, and if this growth comes with irregular periods, lack of menstruation, acne, or other symptoms, the patient should consult a dermatologist, gynecologist, endocrinologist, or internist as soon as possible, Dr. McMichael advises.

Hirsutism can range from a few dark chin hairs to a miniature mustache and sideburns to a full beard, hairy chest, and even male-pattern baldness. The emotional impact of hirsutism can be extreme.

What can I do to get rid of excess hair?

You should lose weight if you're overweight. Losing weight reduces the amount of hormones in your body that cause increased hair growth. Other ways to eliminate or hide excess facial and body hair include the following:

Shaving is the safest and easiest method of removing hair. However, you will have stubble unless you shave every day. Your skin may become irritated with frequent shaving. If your skin becomes irritated, apply a small amount of 1 hydrocortisone cream.

Depilatories, or creams that remove hair, can be used. They leave no stubble. However, these creams may irritate your skin. To test how sensitive your skin is, apply a small amount of cream to the inside of your wrist. Wait one day before applying the cream to other parts of your body. If you don't have a bad reaction to the cream on your wrist, it's probably okay to use it.

Bleaching paste may also be used. Use this product according to the directions on the label. Bleaching products may irritate your skin.

Plucking and waxing are effective ways of removing unwanted hair. Plucking is good for removing small stray hairs and waxing is more effective for removing larger patches of hair. Skin irritation can occur, especially with waxing.

Electrolysis gets rid of hair permanently by delivering a small electrical current through a needle placed into the hair follicle. Electrolysis can be expensive and time-consuming. If you choose to have electrolysis, make sure the operator is qualified and licensed. Talk to your doctor before trying a home electrolysis product.

Is superfluous hair normal or do I have a disease?

Biologists tell us that hair on the human body serves as an embellishment and helps improve appearance. However, excessive hair in socially unacceptable areas can cause deeply rooted psychological distress. Hair removal offers significant cosmetic improvement and can be the key to the well-being of a person.

Hair removal can be classified into two main categories; temporary hair removal and permanent hair removal. Temporary hair removal includes those procedures, such as tweezing, waxing, shaving and chemical depilatories. A few stray hairs extending from the eyebrows for instance are not unusual and perfectly normal. However, some women do experience hormone changes which result in excessive unwanted hair. This imbalance may be temporary such as occurs at puberty and menopause, or it may be a more serious, long term problem.

If you have recently noticed a major change in the amount or the pattern of your facial hair and/or body hair, it would be wise to see your physician.

Often, as men mature, they also experience hair growth which they find undesirable, such as thicker eyebrows, increased chest hair, or long dark hairs on the ears. This is not considered abnormal or a symptom of hormone imbalance, but appears to be a natural occurrence resulting from inheritance.

In all cases, unwanted hair can be removed safely, comfortably, and permanently with electrolysis.

Can hair be removed permanently?

Yes! Electrolysis has long been recognized and accepted by the medical profession as an effective and safe method of permanent hair removal. Permanent hair removal can only be accomplished by carefully destroying the hair follicle and those cells that are responsible for hair growth. Therefore, it should be performed only by a well-trained Electrologist (Me) in a professional setting. Dont hesitate to ask your family Physician.

Hairs have differing cycles of growth, many of which are not visible on the surface of the skin at the same time. The follicle produces the hair from the blood supply, and discards it eventually through shedding. The process of growth, rest and replacement are known as the hair growth cycle. The sequence of events is repeated constantly until a hair ceases to be formed

Electrolysis Las Vegas

There was a time when electrolysis was a little-known hair removal treatment. For models and actresses, it was an insiders beauty secret. But those days are long gone. Today, people of all ages and in all walks of life are enjoying permanently smooth, hair-free skin a benefit that only electrolysis can offer. And the results are more than skin-deep. This look works wonders for their confidence and self-esteem.

Removal of unwanted hair is nothing new. Over the years, people have gone to drastic lengths to get rid of excess body hair, but the results were always the same the hair grew back. It wasnt until 1875 that Dr. Charles Michel, a St. Louis ophthalmologist, invented electrolysis. Michels method is still used today, though with significant technological improvements. It effectively destroys the hair growth cells, preventing further growth.

Electrolysis proved to be a breakthrough discovery. It now boasts the best and longest track record for permanent hair removal. In fact, medical experts agree that electrolysis is the only safe, effective method for removing hair permanently. The marketplace is flooded with temporary hair removal methods, such as depilatories, waxing and threading. But they have the same disadvantage, in that the hair grows back. Many of these methods can actually increase hair growth. For permanent hair removal, electrolysis is the only solution. It works everywhere on the body face, legs, underarms, breasts, abdomen, back and bikini line. And its effective on light or dark hair, as well as all skin types.

What can you expect if you decide to take advantage of this life-enhancing beauty treatment? First, your professional electrologist will assess your health history and any factors that may be related to excessive hair growth. You will then be given a customized plan that addresses your specific concerns and hair removal needs. With todays ever-evolving technology and treatment protocols, electrolysis is more effective and comfortable than ever before.

Why not let electrolysis work its wonders for you. Youll love your new look and your beautiful new self-image. Call today to schedule a free electrolysis consultation. Special rates available to those booking a block of time.

The Biology of Hair

Hair Growth Cycle

Hair on the scalp grows about .3-.4 mm/day or about 6 inches per year. Unlike other mammals, hair growth and loss is random and not seasonal or cyclic. At any given time, a random number of hairs will be in various stages of growth and shedding. There are three stages of hair growth: catagen, telogen, and anagen.

Catagen - The catagen phase is a transitional stage and 3 of all hairs are in this phase at any time. This phase lasts for about 2-3 weeks. During this time growth stops and the outer root sheath shrinks and attaches to the root of the hair. This is the formation of what is known as a club hair.

Telogen - Telogen is the resting phase and accounts for 10-15 of all hairs. This phase lasts for about 100 days for hairs on the scalp and much longer for hairs on the eyebrow, eyelash, arm and leg. During this phase the hair follicle is completely at rest and the club hair is completely formed. Pulling out a hair in this phase will reveal a solid, hard, dry, white material at the root. About 25-100 telogen hairs are shed normally each day.

Anagen - Anagen is the active phase of the hair. The cells in the root of the hair are dividing rapidly. A new hair is formed and pushes the club hair up the follicle and eventually out. During this phase the hair grows about 1 cm every 28 days. Scalp hair stays in this active phase of growth for 2-6 years. Some people have difficulty growing their hair beyond a certain length because they have a short active phase of growth. On the other hand, people with very long hair have a long active phase of growth. The hair on the arms, legs, eyelashes, and eyebrows have a very short active growth phase of about 30-45 days explaining why they are so much shorter than scalp hair.

Hair Removal with Lasers Las Vegas

Laser treatment of various skin conditions has blossomed, as laser technology has become more understood. Hair removal is a common application of laser technology, but it is not permanent and not for everyone. Lasers work by emitting light at various wavelengths, energy output, and pulse widths. The wavelength used determines the skin structure it will affect such as veins, melanin, or water. Most lasers used for hair removal target melanin and are therefore designed to burn structures that contain melanin. The more melanin, the more damage. It makes sense that laser hair removal works best for light-skinned people with dark hair. As with electrolysis, hair follicles in the anagen phase are more easily destroyed than those in the telogen phase. Therefore, laser treatments for hair removal must be repeated. At this time it appears that laser treatment, while not causing permanent destruction of all hair follicles, does retard the regrowth of new hair.

What are the different types of electrolysis?

Answer: There are three modalities used in electrology treatments, however, the differences in treatments go further than the basic physics of current application.

    * Galvanic. the original electrolysis modality, is applied via direct current, resulting in a chemical change of salt and water to lye surrounding the hair follicle.

    * Thermolysis. Also known as radio- or high-frequency, uses alternating current to provide heat in the follicle.

    * Blend. A combination of the direct and alternating current, so that a chemical and heating action occur together or sequentially in the follicle. Since the advent of computerized epilators, there are many nuances to these current applications.

There are two factors that determine results with any of the modalities and nuances thereof. The first is that the current is applied via a fine wire filament, also known as an electrolysis needle. Other methods of applying electrology currents to the skin will not deliver the type of treatment energy that will result in stopping hair growth in the follicle. The second factor that determines results with electrology modalities is practitioner skill. Selecting a skilled electrologist may be the most important factor in getting results.

Tweezing Daily?

All tweezing and other mechanical epilation such as threading and waxing must stop. When a hair is pulled out by the root, four things can occur:

# The hair enlarges over time to become coarser (larger in diameter).
# The hair breaks off to become ingrown or to appear again within a day or so.
# Remnants of the root sheath remain in the skin and cause a pimple.
# The electrologist cannot see the hair until it does reappear several weeks to months later and you will think it's a previously TREATED hair regrowing. (IT IS NOT A PREVIOUSLY TREATED HAIR.)

# THE NUMBER OF MINUTES YOU SPEND ON DAILY TWEEZING: Take this times 7. This is the number of minutes that will be needed for the electrologist to treat the area one week after you have stopped tweezing.
# You can expect to have 2 months of weekly treatments for this many minutes before reducing the length of your treatment.
# Consistent treatments will hasten the completion of your treatments. Hair follicles are best treated when the hair is in the early growing stage.

For less frequent tweezing (i.e. weekly tweezing that clears all hair in 5 or 10 minutes) you can determine that your first appointment will take 5 or 10 minutes times the number of weeks since all tweezing stopped.

The time spent for New Finish electrolysis treatments will take approximately the same length of time as you currently spend tweezing at home. The treatments will progressively diminish the hair you grow as long as you are consistent with your treatments. Even women with hormonal imbalances can get results.

Selecting An Electrologist

When seeking an electrologist, personal referrals are a very good start. While many people don't want to admit that they have excess hair, if you quietly ask, they might tell! Physician referrals can be helpful, but then again, many people don't even admit to their physician that they have had electrolysis treatments. Also, local phone books and internet searches can help you find an electrologist in your area. When viewing print, internet and television ads, make sure that they are providing needle electrolysis. In yellow page and internet advertising you will often see "heading jumping," a type of bait and switch, where practitioners of other hair removal methods advertise as electrologists. If you call, they will make an appointment for you and never tell you that they do not provide electrolysis treatments. Be careful of this. Luckily here in Las Vegas there are few reputable electrologist so the decision should be easy. As stated on my home page I offer free consultation along with a free 5 minute treatment. No other electrologist or Laser Hair Removal Company offers that in Las Vegas Nevada.

Painless Hair Removal Las Vegas

While the discomfort experienced from either electrolysis or laser hair removal varies from person to person, any claim that such a procedure is "guaranteed painless" or "virtually painless" should be a red flag. Again, this is a claim that no reputable provider for either process would make.

One difference to consider is that laser hair removal procedures affect much larger areas per session than electrolysis. This has been a source of concern for the FDA due to the improper use of topical anesthetics by laser consumers trying to numb large areas all at once. Laser hair removal consumers should be certain to consult with a doctor or their certified laser hair removal provider before applying topical anesthetics. If your provider instructs you to apply a topical anesthetic to an area more than a few inches square, you should seek a different provider

Myths about Electrolysis Las Vegas

Electrolysis is painful. The truth is, electrolysis usually does not cause much discomfort. Modern electrolysis methods have reduced the discomfort to a mere tingling. A topical anesthetic may be used in some cases.

The electric tweezer method is permanent. The truth is, the Food and Drug Administration and the American Medical Association recognize only electrolysis as a permanent method of removing hair. In fact, some states prohibit those who use the electric tweezerwhich can also be purchased for consumer usefrom claiming it provides permanent hair removal.

Temporary methods of hair removal are better. The truth is, that while chemical depilatories (liquids or creams) are often used to remove body hair, these products contain irritating chemicals, and can be time-consuming and messy. Likewise, bleaches contain harsh chemicals and do little to disguise dark hair. They may also discolor the skin. Waxing is another temporary method of hair removal and is usually done in salons. A hot wax is applied to the skin and removed once it has dried over the hair. The hair is stripped off when the wax is removed. Waxing can be painful and costly. Home waxing kits are available, but they can be difficult to use and messy. There are electrical electrolysis devices available for home use that try to copy the devices used by professionals. These devices are often unsafe for use by anyone who is not trained in electrolysis

Dissatisified Laser Hair Removal Client

I have dark hair and light skin, so I should be the perfect candidate. I went with a well known company, with multiple locals around the US. My package was for 6 treatments on my legs, underarms, and bikini and it came with a 2 year guarantee - free treatments for 2 years after the 6th treatment if I see hair growth in the treated areas. I went to the treatments every 11 weeks, as the clinic recommended. I saw results after a few treatments - small spots that had less hair growth than usual, or look bare. But by the 6th treatment, instead of seeing the 80 results the clinic said most people see, I saw maybe 20. So I went back for more treatments every 6 weeks (they suggested I come more often because I wasn't seeing good results). I started receiving "double passes" where they go over the entire treatment area twice at each treatment session. Last month was the end of my 2 year guarantee period. I had over 20 treatments total. I still have to shave every day. My underarms and bikini have spots with no hair growth, but the hair that does grow is still thick, and I suspect the areas of little or no grow will grow back within the next few month. My legs show very little progress as well - less hair, but the hair that does grow is still thick and grows quickly so I have to shave regularly. I don't know if I'm particularly resistant, if the lasers they use at that clinic doesn't work on me, or what. But I would not do it again. The pain, time, and most of all expense has been wasted. I still have to shave regularly,so the little results I've seen are meaningless.
I don't know if other people have had success over the long term, but I would not suggest this to anyone. At least not until the technology is improved and more people have seen better, more permanant results.

Hair's Life Cycle

Many patients believe that the hair they can see is all they will ever have. They may also believe that what they tweeze today will be grown in by tomorrow morning,

All hair goes through a life cycle timed by genes. This cycle can vary from a few months for an eyebrow hair to up to 6 years or longer for a scalp hair.
The life cycle begins when a new dermal papilla is formed at the base of the follicle. This begins the ANAGEN phase. Within a few weeks, a new hair will begin to grow. The early anagen phase continues until the hair is fully grown into a terminal or later anagen hair. The CATAGEN phase begins when the hair detaches itself from the dermal papilla and for a short period of time receives nourishment from the surrounding network of capillaries. When the hair no longer receives nourishment, it is in the TELOGEN phase. The dermal papilla and a major portion of the hair follicle shrink considerable. The hair is held within the follicle as a "bed" or "club hair." These hairs fall out daily through combing, brushing and simple friction.

The time from the anagen to the telogen stages varies depending on the area of the body and the genetic pattern of the patient. Sometimes as early as ten days anagen hair will begin to grow before the telogen hair has fallen out. If only the telogen hair is treated, regrowth will occur.

It is important to know at what rate hair on different parts of the body will regrow after treatment. Any hair that appears before the estimated after treatment time is growing from untreated follicles. Patients must understand this or will blame the electrologist for poor treatment and or feel electrolysis does not work. These latent early anagen hairs are one of the reasons why patients think treated hair is regrowing. Latent early anagen hairs account for the largest percentage of the "regrowth problem" Hair can take anywhere from 5 weeks on the eyebrows, to 8 weeks on the bikini line to regrow, it if does at all.

Thermolysis

Thermolysis destroys the papilla by heat and is characterized by the application of alternating current (AC) and by the use of only 1 probe at a time. Thermolysis was developed in 1924 by French physician Henri Bordier. This method soon became the popular because of it is much faster than the others, and is the most widely used mode of electrology today. Thermolysis is also referred to as "high frequency", Radio frequency(RF) and Diathermy.
